At Rest

by Lynette Johnson

The women whispered in soft hushed tones,
As she blankly stared with a heart of stone,
Their kind words of comfort fell on deaf ears,
The thought her brother’s dead, brought her to tears.

“If only you had been here”, she cried,
“My brother would never have died.”
It has been four days since the tomb was closed,
She wondered, why Jesus? wasn’t He told?

Jesus answered, “I am the resurrection and the life.”
“Whoever believes in me will live, though he die”.
Then asking the stone to be removed, He cried out,
With a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”

Tears of joy and shouts rang out,
When her dead brother wrapped in linen, walked out.
That day the dead came to life at His behest,
Today His response brings eternal life and rest!
